Cedric Fisher: "earnestly contending for the faith."

To Embrace Hebrew Roots: Part I

Introduction

Please note:Research into the Hebrew Roots & Messianic movements constitutes research into Judaism as well as the occult. We fully respect each persons right to believe or utilize what resources they choose. We however, see a clear distinction in believing the Messiah has come versus utilizing resources which still await His coming. That is how and why we must evaluate all to Christ and the New Testament as well as the Tenach. We do not wish to edit or criticize Judaism, but recognize it as distinct from our Christian beliefs, just as many in Judaism also see a distinction and separateness from our beliefs, and we jointly have mutual respect for our differences and each other.

There is a growing movement within Christianity, which contends that Christians need “to return to their Hebrew Roots.” The leaders of this movement purport to be teaching believers the “Hebrew Roots of Christianity” through the study of the Jewish foundational teachings. Having been enjoined to study “Hebrew Roots”, it is only reasonable that one must take a close look at the teachings of the Messianic and Hebrew Roots movements, as well as the Hebrew faith itself.

We are reminded in Colossians 2:6-9:

“As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in Him: Rooted and built up in Him, and stablished in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving. Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ. For in Him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.”

Is the Hebrew Roots, as some might suggest, merely the study of the Old Testament, which Christians already study in light of the New Testament?

What do the Hebrew foundational teachings expound with regard to the New Testament, the Messiah, the divinity of Jesus Christ, the Persons or Manifestations of God, the Bible and the character of God?

I could never accept the concept of being spoon-fed answers to my questions from those promoting the movement or belief that is questionable. To embrace the Hebrew Roots theology without a full review and understanding of its teachings, would be blindness on our part and lead to ignoring the many warnings we find in the Word of God.

2 Timothy 3:13-17:

“But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving and being deceived. But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them: And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.

All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be throughly furnished unto all good works.”

We know that many of the Hebrew Roots ministries are connected with each other and with various other types of ministries. This obligates us to investigate them even more thoroughly. By examining the HR teachings, those of the Jewish faith and it’s mystical exponent, Kabbalism–which is indeed the concerning root of the Hebrew Roots movement–we will then see if what is taught upholds the Word of God.

You are very good at using buzz words like ‘Kabbalists’ and ‘occult’ with dire warnings of heresy. Really? What lens are you looking through?

The first time I read the Bible from cover to cover was to find evidence of Messiah (Yeshua/Jesus) in the Old Testament.

Guess what? He’s there. The entirety of the scriptures is about Him. I would remind you that the verse you quote above, (all scripture is given by inspiration of God…) refers to what modern-day Christians call the Old Testament. Funny how the most quoted book by Yeshua (Jesus) is Deuteronomy. He read, studied, and taught from the Old Testament scriptures, because, oddly enough, the gospels which were written by his disciples were not extant until long after his death, burial and resurrection.

Before you start preaching against the Word of GOD (you know…the Torah etc.) it might be appropriate to actually read what it says.

Try as I might, I cannot find a single instance in either the Old or New Testament that commands (or even suggests) that we observe Christmas or Easter…both of which are based in paganism. Did you know that the original colonists here in the states had outlawed the observance of Christmas? That isn’t that long ago, but now to suggest it is contrary to the instructions from Our Father, brands us as heretics.

There is plenty of error in all ‘religious systems’ but, those of us who are making a return to Torah are doing it because that is what Yeshua (and the apostles) modeled and taught. Not the doctrines of man-made religions. I cannot help but smile at your commentary above. When I read what you wrote…I see the Christian church that picks and chooses what verses to build a doctrine upon. We, on the other hand, are building our WALK upon HIS instructions.

Ask Him to show you the truth. He will be faithful to do so. Shalom.

Of course, I pray, but not to a false God. God Almighty, Father of Jesus Christ, has revealed though His word the error of your doctrine. I’m sad for your deception, but there is no way for me to get the truth into your mind. This is the final and great deception and apostasy. Anyone caught up in deception as deeply as you are has little hope of deliverance. You view deliverance as evil and deception as truth. How can one be delivered from such a bondage in a time when deception is so intense that if it were possible even the elect could be deceived? I can only hope that when the persecution arrives, you will realize the truth, that you are in error and repent.

Thank you Julia. But those who wrote the article and those supporting it will never “get it” (as to what you are saying.)They have a Greek mind set and embrace all that the Roman culture, who worshipped Greek gods, instituted and put into place in the “Christian” that has evolved into “the Church” today.Sad.

      • C.H. Fisher

Oh we “get it” just fine. We get that the Hebraic Roots Movement is part of the great deception and as all deception will lead to apostasy. Furthermore, all the strawman positions you posit are merely attempts to hide the fact that you deny the New Testament, which is in your opinion “a Greek mind set.” The fact is, the Messiah that Julie searched for is Jesus Christ, without Whom the New Testament would not exist. So when you reject the New Testament, you reject Jesus Christ the Messiah. No amount of cut-n-paste hermeneutics can deny that truth.

We can agree on one point, i.e., that there is much wrong with Christianity. However, the Hebraic Roots Movement is not the cure. Instead it is part of the problem–a deeper pit of deception. The same source of all the heresies in Christianity is the source of the HRM.

When a person with a correct map becomes lost, it is not because the map is wrong, but that he or she did not read and interpret it properly. God’s word in entirety is the correct “map.” The HRM is a very distorted and dangerous “map.” Satan never sources anything except for the purpose of luring souls into fatal deception.

All TruthKeepers is attempting to do it give you and everyone else the truth. What you do with it is your decision alone.

Here’s the thing about cult’s, they don’t ever say we are a cult . These people stick out like a sore thumb to me now, not at first though, they talk like Christians sort of, they are well versed sort of , it’s deceptive at first. I was lured into it for a bit , something inside of me was just screaming wrong way. The more I looked into it this “Yeshua” stuff and their saying Paul is a False Apostle I have to admit the way the do it with backing it up with Bible verses , incorrectly though. It felt like a plan hatched from satan himself, I fell victim to it for about 3 days that was 3 days to long , I stay strong in reading the New Testament alot the King James 1611 bible says Jesus not Yeshua. Paul is not a false Apostle in fact when trying to debate the depraved mind of an active HRM member they wont accept Pauls writing as a basis for argument , they twist Acts, they twist Peter ,it’s like debating satan he’s got his mind made up and there’s no talking him out of it . We are saved by Grace through Faith period not works !! Come on Christians think open your bible this is a “New” gospel we were warned of another Jesus is “Yeshua” we were warned of .The New Testament is rife with warning’s about movement’s like this , these people teaching you a new gospel with so called “hidden” understandings, satans first tricks in the beginning 1. you can be as God 2. A “NEW WAY” there is no new way period, only The Way ,The Truth, and The Light. It’s funny this HRM keeps saying oh we’ll pray for you, you poor misguided soul , NO I’ll pray for you by all means. Come to your senses Christians , run from this satanic doctrine with all you got , there might be a reason you fell for this trap , investigate this so called New Way , geez you guys if you don’t stand for something you will fall for everything, Stand for Jesus, Stand for Paul , Stand for Easter, Stand for the whole New Testament stop having itching ears for every doctrine that flows your way . (not shalom) AMEN !

    • James

FYI in no way am I anti Semitic so don’t even go there that’s another ploy used by the HRM to silence opposition , I actually love the Jews I have zero issues with them yes I do realize their are bad apples in Judaism just as in Christianity, I’ve seen these people try and silence opposition with the race card, I love Jews and totally support Israel.

Thank you so much for fighting the good fight of faith. I too almost fell for this as they shamed me for celebrating Easter and Christmas. I was a baby believer so it was easy for them to deceive me. I didn’t get deep into it and only refused to celebrate Christmas once but thankfully the whole thing only lasted a few months with me. That was a few months too long. I was becoming an angry and bitter Pharisee with no fruit of the Spirit at all.
I have for some years now been growing under a really great Grace ministry and am now being prepared by Jesus to go into my own ministry!
He does reward those who fight the good fight and remain in Him.
I know it cannot be easy having this ministry. I have been led to a ministry of false teaching also (abusive relationships and cults).
I’m sure these HRM zealots call you Beelzebub just as they called Jesus Beelzebub.
Stand strong though in your faith. You are doing God’s work by helping those who are being led to denying Christ which is apostasy and the broad road to destruction.
I completely agree that this is part of the End Times deception. No doubt the antichrist will be the head of this one day soon. Maybe his false one world religion will be an amalgamation of licentiousness and legality which are both part of the road to damnation.
Amazing Grace how sweet the sound, that saved a wretch like me! I once was lost but now I’m found, was blind but now I see!

The author passed away and no one picked up the mantle. I will try to find another viable source to link to.
