One of the most controversial topics today is homosexuality. More professing Christians are willing to accept the practice as God-sanctioned. Some of them go so far as to claim that there are no negative effects of homosexuality. One of the negative effects of gay sex is that it is a satanic perversion and confusion of the God-created gender roles. Satan cannot lay one crooked finger on God, so he attacks the image of God…humanity. However, the greatest negative is that it is against the nature of God and offenders and condoners alike will one day incur His judgment and wrath. However proponents of homosexuality fire back with the well-worn defense, “God created me this way because it is the way I was born”.

First, I disagree that God created homosexuals. Adam and Eve were the only humans that God created and they were created pure. Everyone else is procreated by their fathers and mothers. It is a biblical fact that neither Adam nor Eve was homosexual and there were no other humans on earth. Either God made a mistake in not creating a homosexual, or He accepts the mistake that evolved out of the lust of the flesh. Further, had God created a homosexual to occupy the earth with Adam and Eve, He would have had to create two of them. He would also need to give one of them the means to give birth or they would become extinct after one generation. The fact is, had He created a man with the means to give birth, that man would have been a woman and thus unappealing to the other homosexual. That essentially puts us back to square one.

On the second point I agree. A person may indeed be born effeminate. In other words, homosexuality is in their DNA. Actually, we were all born in sin. The Apostle Paul wrote in Ephesians that we are/were all by nature children of wrath (Ephesians 2:1-3).

However, we do not condone rapists because they have in their natures a strong desire to overpower women and abuse them? Will the ones who accept homosexuality one day sanction pedophilia because pedophiles claim, “I was born this way”? Society demands that rapists and pedophiles control their natures or face the consequences. God demands everyone that wishes to be in His kingdom must change his or her nature to conform to His nature. The wonderful truth of the Gospel is such change will begin when we are born again of the Spirit.

I believe the process of changing our nature to conform to the Divine Nature may involve a rewrite of the DNA code that determines our natural proclivities. DNA is called by scientists the “Book of Life”. Scientists who believe in Intelligent Design insist that an intelligent being must have written the DNA “Book of Life”. Christian scientists believe (as do I) that God is the Intelligent Designer that wrote the DNA that makes up the human genome. He did not write the DNA for each person individually, but only the original DNA for Adam and Eve.  If God wrote it originally, it stands to reason that He can rewrite it.

Sin is the warping factor that disorders DNA. When Adam and Eve sinned, the effect of sin was passed onto their children and the rest of humanity. Presently, whatever distortion that exists in the DNA of the father and mother is passed down into the children. One child may be born with a proclivity to homosexuality while another one may be heterosexual. We have witnessed serial killers whose siblings are normal and law-abiding. Some children are born with a very quick and volatile temper while their siblings are gentle and not easily provoked. Therefore, being born with a proclivity toward homosexuality is not a valid reason, but rather an excuse. Just like every other characteristic of the carnal mind, that disorder of God’s creation must also be submitted to Him for change.

The question is, can God change our DNA? He declares that He can and will change our nature. I can testify that He has changed many parts of my old nature that were against His nature. Since DNA determines our natural proclivities, a rewrite of our DNA may be the way God changes certain deep-seated characteristics of our nature.  God’s word contains incidents of people being physically changed by supernatural means. When Christ spoke with power and authority, deaf people heard, blind people saw, people born cripple began to walk, and etcetera. Something in the flesh had to be altered in order for those miracles to occur. It is logical to conclude that the same power that recreates and reorders flesh, bones, muscles, ligaments, and ear drums, is able to reconstruct disordered DNA.

When we surrender our lives to Him, we are indwelt with the Divine Nature, the Holy Spirit, who is perfect. The Holy Spirit mentors us and assists us in changing our natures to conform to His nature. Everything that is in our nature that is in contrast with God’s nature must change. The catalyst for the change is considered spiritual because it cannot be seen with the naked eye. Something is going on spiritually inside of us when we submit to God. It manifests outwardly as a changed nature.

Anyone indwelt by the Holy Spirit must submit to His work of changing his or her nature.  God gives is time to submit to those changes.  It does not mean that we continue in sin, but that we mount a strong resistance against it with the help of the Holy Spirit.  Contrary to the soteriology of some denominations, forgiveness and grace is not simply a Hell Insurance policy. It is the means by which we retain the favor of God while we are being changed into His likeness by the work of the Spirit. Professing Christians may commit acts that stem from the flawed human nature when they fail to submit to the Holy Spirit’s influence. They may commit adultery, steal, fight, cheat, lie, curse, get drunk, and etcetera, as they capitulate to the old nature instead of the influence of the Divine Nature. None of that can be truthfully blamed on the way they were born.  All of it must be repented of lest they are pulled back into the darkness (2 Peter 2:22).  I have known some cantankerous professing Christians that defend their petulant nature by saying, “That’s just the way I am…deal with it”, or something to that effect. My response is, “What about Christ in you? When do you plan to put on the Lord Jesus Christ and make no provision for the flesh to fulfill its lust?” The fact that God can and will deliver us from our old nature is the essence of the Gospel. To insist that there is a particular sin that He cannot deliver us from is to deny the Gospel.

Just as any other aberration in human nature, homosexuality must not be accepted as a godly trait. It must be recognized as the fallen nature whose DNA is jumbled by sin. God can and will arrange the DNA so that a homosexual who yields his or her life to Him will eventually lose the proclivity to commit homosexuality. He has delivered drunkards so that they no longer wanted to drink alcohol. He has delivered prostitutes, violent people, murderers, adulterers, vulgar people, drug addicts, and there is a long list of testimonies of people that were delivered from all sorts of evil proclivities including homosexuality. It does not matter what one’s nature was before they submitted to God, He can and will change it. An old song says it best; “Mercy rewrote my life”. However, change is a process. Some things may change immediately, but strongholds in our nature take time.

The picture is clear that homosexuality exists solely for the purpose of pleasure. However, some professing Christian seem to believe that God cannot or will not deliver individuals from homosexuality, but that He accepts it as a normal sexual orientation. Herein lies the egregious error of pro-homosexual professing Christians. To claim that God sanctions homosexuality is to declare that the homosexual nature is in God’s Divine Nature, which is blasphemous and impossible. God is perfect and there is neither sin nor darkness in Him. To claim that He cannot deliver homosexuals is to declare that He is not omnipotent and therefore not God. The ramifications of those claims are hopelessness for homosexuals who want to be free, and fatal deception in the ones that believe God accepts them without requiring change.

As the final deception, apostasy, and delusion increases, no doubt more traits of the sinful nature will be accepted as viable elements of the Christian nature. Concurrently, as faith dies, many of the divine characteristics of God will be marginalized proportionally. When professing Christians regard Him as less than God, they begin to regard their godlessness as godliness. His sovereignty decreases as their autonomy increases. The deception grows to the point that what is pleasing to God is determine by the will of the masses rather than by the will of God. It gives rise to a false gospel that God permits rather than delivers from sin. This is a proper synopsis of the last days. It is why homosexuality is being accepted as a valid Christian lifestyle today.  I declare, in answer to the title and question of this article, that God can, will, deliver, and has delivered, homosexuals.  That’s the truth and there are not enough demons in or out of hell to change it.

Truth.  The very mention of the world brings dread to the hearts of the compromising professing Christians and the subjects of the world system.  They fear exposure. One who has marginalized or rejected love for truth has rejected Christ.  Christ Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life.  No one comes to the Father except through me” (John 14:6).  Liars declare that Christ Jesus did not speak the truth, but that Muslims, Hindus, and other religions travel to God via their own paths.  Rejection of love for truth is the reason for their great delusion.

At some point the great delusion prophesied by the Apostle Paul has to arrive.

“The coming of the lawless one is according to the working of Satan, with all power, signs, and lying wonders, and with all unrighteous deception among those who perish, because they did not receive the love of the truth, that they might be saved. And for this reason God will send them strong delusion, that they should believe the lie, that they all may be condemned who did not believe the truth but had pleasure in unrighteousness.” (2Thessalonians 2:9-12)

It has happened before in history.

“Make the heart of this people dull, And their ears heavy, And shut their eyes; Lest they see with their eyes, And hear with their ears, And understand with their heart, And return and be healed.” (Isaiah 6:10)

Christ, quoting Isaiah, pointed out to the Pharisees that they were under a great delusion.  They were deluded to the extent that they crucified the Way, Truth, and Life.  The Apostle Paul used the same words in rebuking the Jews that resisted the Gospel. (Matthew 13:15 and Acts 28:27)

Isaiah prophesied about the great delusion.

“Just as they have chosen their own ways, and their soul delights in their abominations, so will I choose their delusions, and bring their fears on them; because, when I called, no one answered, when I spoke they did not hear; but they did evil before My eyes, and chose that in which I do not delight.” (Isaiah 66:3-4)

The leaders of the Emergent Church, NAR, RCC, Seeker Friendly, the Charismatic Movement in general, and Contemplative denominations, which comprises most of Christianity today, are under a great delusion.  They are being set up for the False Prophet and the Antichrist.  The situation is so metastasized that there appears to be no way to reach them, to change their minds, or awaken them to the truth.  They refuse to listen and label the ones attempting to warn them as hinderers to the next great revival or awakening.  They have thrown off all restraints.  Accepting the paganism of New Age doctrines and practices, many of those leaders have become demonic.  The fruit of their demon possession is that they are turning everything upside down.  What was once deemed truth is now being called lies.  They are honoring the diabolical as righteousness.  It stands to reason that they would eventually reach the depth of depravity with their apostasy.

Indicative that they have come under the great delusion is their rejection of God’s word to accept homosexuality as God-sanctioned.  Presently, Christian leaders, publishers, colleges, universities, denominations, and organizations are scrambling to embrace homosexuals as true Christians.  I have a friend in the Christian music business that has written many number one songs over several decades.  He told my wife and me over lunch several months ago that homosexuals had infested Christian music, and that the industry had overwhelmingly accepted homosexuality.  Because of his opposition to homosexuality, he has been ostracized. Homosexuals are being ordained as ministers and offered tenure in Christian colleges and universities.

Sexual sin is a particularly egregious act according to God’s word.  It is an indication that one has completely rejected God.  A professing Christian committing adultery separates him or herself from God and is joined to the one whom they commit sexual sin with.  Otherwise, a member of the Body of Christ is joined in sin to a harlot (1Corinthians 6:13-20), which would be impossible. Imagine one defiling the temple of the Holy Spirit in such a manner.

“If anyone defiles the temple of God, God will destroy him. For the temple of God is holy, which temple you are.” (1 Corinthians 3:17)

How can so many Christian leaders ignore God’s word and encourage joining the members of Christ’s Body to Sodomites?  They have changed the theme of the Gospel from “Jesus Saves” to “Jesus Tolerates”.   It is an indication of just how much erosion of faith by wickedness has occurred.  The prophetic sign of Sodom and Gomorrah does not simply mean that we are entering the last days, but evidence that we are near the end.  Failure to realize that fact is a deadly mistake being made by scores of Christians leaders.  Combined with the malignant hedonism that is rapidly spreading throughout the world system, only one that is spiritually blind would not recognize where we are on the prophetic timetable.  The fact is that the core of leadership in Christianity is rotting in all sectors. Apathy and ignorance is rampant in the mass of professing Christians.  Surely, calamity will come upon them as a thief that they were warned about, but were not watching for.  They will not simply be plundered, but destroyed.

I remarked to my wife last night after reading some news about the condition of Christianity that it was in a free fall now. Anything can happen at any time.  People had better be on guard and spiritually prepared.  I cannot convey it strong enough that this is a very dangerous time to be spiritually weak, distracted, deceived, or lost.  I particularly do not agree with the “coasting” theory.  Many Christians are looking for the rapture to take them out before they suffer.  They fail to recognize that God’s word does not tell them that they will be exempted from all suffering. Millions of Christians are suffering unspeakable horrors worldwide.  America is on the brink of joining them.  We will not suffer the wrath of God, but the wrath of Satan and his emissaries is imminent.  Attempting to “coast” until the Rapture is foolhardy.  God’s word declares that it is a fight or a race to the finish.

True Christianity is shrinking in number as the apostasy increases.  If the shrinkage keeps up, we will be marginalized into obscurity and the satanic kingdom will have no opposition.  The safe and comfortable action is to do nothing.  Demoniacs are steering the ship, but they stay in their bunks oblivious to the warnings.  Upon some generation it was bound to come.  Why do we believe it is not our generation when so much evidence exists that it is?  In spite of incredible and bizarre signs that the apostasy is fully formed and encroaching every corner of the world, professing Christians sleep on.  They have little or no oil in their lamps or reserves.

God is calling, if they will hear: “Wake up, O sleepers! Otherwise, take your rest!  However, it will not be My ‘Sabbath Rest’.  The eternal night is rapidly falling and the door to the sheepfold is closing, but you are sleeping outside the gate.  You are not outraged; neither can you blush at the encroachment of hideous sin that ravages even the youngest generation.  Your hearts are filled with excesses.  You are ashamed of Me.  You refuse to defend My honor.  You do not love My truth. You allow the most wicked to defile My truth, and you are afraid to speak.  You are comforted in the multitude of your deceptions.  Although you claim to be sons and daughters of the Most High, your fruit is diseased with unfettered desire for the world system.  Can you endure to the end when you cannot tolerate the voice of His prophets?  Can you survive the flood of evil when you disdain the washing of water by the Word?  Will you pass through the fire (and God is a consuming fire) when you refuse to feed the smoldering embers of your dying passion for Him?  You chase after everything demonic, but run from the Holy One.  A multitude of sorceries is your attraction, complacency and apathy is your covering, and deception is your food.  When you call to Me in the Day of My wrath, I will not answer.  You were blind and I healed you.  You were naked and I clothed you.  You were bound and I unchained you.  You were filthy and I washed you.  You were rejected and unloved, and I loved you.  Now you have rejected Me, the fountain of living water, to drink from the broken cisterns polluted with all manner of unrighteousness.  I did not forsake you, but you have forsaken Me.  Repent and return!  Come and receive forgiveness while there is still time.  If you linger, you will die in your sin.  If you refuse, when time is no more, you will remain eternally in your fallen state.”

“Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen.” (Ephesians 3:20-21)

I preached a message from this text at the Oklahoma District Council of the Assemblies of God in the early 1980’s. Afterward, some of the District officials appeared annoyed with me and one refused to shake my hand. After reflection, I realized that they thought I was advocating the Word of Faith doctrine that was growing in prominence at the time and invading many of the AoG churches. Since then I have come to the realization that professing Christians tend to swing on a pendulum of dogma. When something mimics their position, they will swing as far in the opposite direction as possible to avoid association. Thus, we have legalism in response to liberalism, hyper-Pentecostalism in response to Cessationism, and a measured faithlessness in response to hyper-faith, among other things. It appears that all Satan has to do to knock us off our mountain is to build one nearby that appears similar. Then we will abandon our position willingly.

I still believe in the power of God in response to effectual, fervent prayer by faithful people. If we do not believe that statement, then why pray or ask people to pray? Are we praying to a “Perhaps God” that seldom responds? It does not matter that many filthy rich simoniacal charlatans practice their craft with cameras rolling. They make a mockery of God’s gifts and power for the benefits of wealth and fame. But that does not mean I should refuse to lay hands on the sick, bound, oppressed, and possessed, believing in the power of God to set them free. Either every word of God is true, or it is all false.

It does not mean that they will all be healed or that all their needs will be met in the manner and time that they desire. I don’t know the reason(s) why. All I know is that I have witnessed miracles. The lack of God doing what we desire does not alter the fact that He can. It is for certain that few people receive healing or deliverance from the “telecharlatans”. I have heard them brag about how God answers every one of their prayers without fail. However, they turn and blame the ones that are not healed or delivered of having a lack of faith. I wonder if they realize that Christ healed and delivered people who had no faith or hope.

Another side of the issue is that many churches today are becoming cultural centers. Everything one would expect to find at a secular meeting to attract a crowd one can find in these churches. When the entertainment is over, a spiritual icicle will stand behind a Plexiglas podium and preach a pithy sermonette laced with humor. They all go to the restaurant and then home to watch a sports event on TV. Everyone is comfortable that they did their duty to God and all is well. They are more concerned with relating to culture and doing social works than they are in being a peculiar people of God with a unique message. How do they expect to get people to become totally committed to Christ Jesus when they are too ashamed to expressly declare His full attributes? Who those churches advertise is not the true Christ, but one that needs much help from the world system and even Satan to attract converts.

The biblical Christ declared that if He was crucified, He would draw people to Him. There was no other requirement even hinted at. (John 12:32-33)

Because Christ died and rose again from the dead there is power in every true Christian to defeat the works of darkness. We should not blame the pastor only when no mighty works are accomplished in church meetings. God never told us to put all our hopes and faith in one human and expect him to do all the work. We should ask ourselves, “What is the good fight of faith anyway?”  Is it simply the ability to endure the consequences of our low living?  Is the mere fact that we still attend church meetings proof that we have faith?

Imagine standing before God with a dirty rag wrapped around our church attendance record and saying, “Here, Lord, I fought the good fight, I have finished the race.”  We should stand in front of a mirror and tell ourselves what attributes of true Christianity that we possess. It’s for certain that one day God will tell us what we possess.  If we can point at ourselves and say, “You love the Lord God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength, and believe that with God all things are possible”, then we have the premise of true faith abiding in us.

True Christians must come together in their meetings with the faith that nothing is impossible for God. If we don’t believe that God can set people free in the name of Jesus Christ, or we are too spiritually weak and lacking in faith to do so, then we should send them to a doctor or perhaps a psychiatrist. But one thing we should not do, and that is to declare that God cannot do what He plainly declared that He could and will do. We should be honest and say that we are people of little faith.

For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind. (2 Timothy 1:7)

Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed. (John 8:36)
