My mind is still trying to process reports of the massacre Umpqua Community College in Roseburg, Oregon.  Liberals are shamelessly using the tragedy to call for gun control.  If inanimate objects persuade individuals to commit murder, why don’t the same liberals curb their vitriolic hate speech against Christianity?   It is an indisputable fact that hate speech causes innocent deaths.  They want to use the “my-spoon-makes-me-fat” argument instead.

However, there is another question that must be in the minds of every professing Christian.  How would I respond if someone stood in front of me with a gun and asked if I was a Christian?  In that moment, there would be the stark reality of death, but with the same clarity the consequence of denial.  There is only one answer; “Yes, I am a follower of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.”  What if you said, “No”, and were killed anyway?  Would anyone want that to be the last word on their lips?

We are all going to die eventually unless Christ comes first.  We may have no control over when, where, why, and how we will die.  But in a moment in Oregon, 10 people chose to spend eternity with Christ rather than have more uncertain time on this troubled earth.  We should envy them, but instead we greatly admire their courage and honor their sacrifice.  Further, we hope that if we are faced with the same choice, we would make the same decision.
