Lemonade Trials

Someone once said, “When life hands you lemons, make lemonade.” Of course, it was a reference to troubles common to us all. However, lemonade is not the only use for lemons. I use lemons as seasoning. A couple of slices when grilling fresh salmon is very tasty.

The fact is, most seasoning by themselves does not taste well at all. I do not like black pepper, cumin, garlic, et cetera, straight from their containers. When I focus solely on trials I don’t like them.

I view trials as the seasoning in life. By themselves, they are bitter and sometimes cruel. Added to the rest of our lives, God’s blessings, the promise of eternal bliss in heaven, and the many other benefits, they are as seasoning. Just as salt, pepper, and some lemon slices make us appreciate grilled salmon, trials make us appreciate life more and better.

Genuine Faith—When the Gold Shines.

(2 Timothy 1:5)

God’s word gives us examples of faith in the fire, faith in the flood, faith when outnumbered by the enemy, faith when facing an indomitable foe, faith in prison, faith during torture, faith when destitute, hungry, and thirsty, faith on stormy seas, faith to lose everything and faith to receive it all back again, faith to procreate though infertile, and faith to die. In every instance of faith it is manifested in adversity or great need. However, there are no examples in the Scriptures of faith operating in a peaceful and bountiful climate.

Someone might contend that the peaceful climate is the result of faith. That may be true, but it is not faith in operation. Good health is the result of exercise, but it is not exercise. If our comfortable status is faith, then obviously we would never have adversity. Further, there would be no biblical examples of godly men and women exercising faith to overcome adversity. A Crow in His Spirit

I have been writing about the great and final apostasy for many years. There are many examples of nominal Christian (think, Episcopalian) churches succumbing to it. Additionally, we can see the dark orb of apostasy rising in evangelical denominations and certain megachurches. No need to look further than Oprah Winfrey’s list of “awakened leaders” to find a collection of apostate pastors.

However, some people react negatively when I tag one of their favorite leaders as a heretic. But do they really know those individuals? They know only what they see on TV and what they read. I concede that some of them at times preach truth. However, as I have pointed out before, Satan will give you a boatload of truth if you will accept a spoonful of deadly poison. Even the proverbial wolf knows that he must use the skin of a sheep if his deception is going to be successful. And the tare appears as the wheat.

The question arises, “Then how can we know when someone is not of God?” Christ declared that the only way is by their fruit. However, they dispense their bad fruit cleverly, by small increments, and disguised as the “bread, meat, and milk” of God’s truth. Thus, Believers need to develop discernment. When the bad fruit manifests, they should loudly cry, “Wolf!” At the very least they should avoid that individual’s influence. Continue reading
