Lying Spirits

Lying Spirits—and the influence of doublespeak (Part One)

(Part Two)

I do not believe that the Antichrist will appear as a sinister man with a perceptibly diabolical spirit.  Instead, he will be gregarious, charismatic, charming, and very clever with words.  Consider the power of words.  A man can take over a nation, convince the intelligentsia to commit incredible acts of brutality, exterminate over 6 million Jews, and start a world war, with nothing but words.  Likewise, Satan’s Antichrist, personified by Satan himself, will rise to the highest level of influence by the power of diabolically inspired rhetoric.  Other leaders captivated by his words will become his puppets, and they will have puppets under them. He will be one of the most proficient masters of doublespeak.

 What is doublespeak?

“Doublespeak is language that deliberately disguises, distorts, or reverses the meaning of words.  Doublespeak may take the form of euphemisms (e.g., “downsizing” for layoffs, “servicing the target” for bombing), in which case it is primarily meant to make the truth sound more palatable.  It may also refer to intentional ambiguity in language or to actual inversions of meaning (for example, naming a state of war “peace”).  In such cases, doublespeak disguises the nature of the truth.  Doublespeak is most closely associated with political language.” (Wikipedia)

“Doublespeak is language which pretends to communicate but doesn’t.  It is language which makes the bad seem good, the negative seem positive, the unpleasant seem unattractive, or at least tolerable.  It is language which avoids, shifts, or denies responsibility; language which is at variance with its real or purported meaning.  It is language which conceals or prevents thought.   Doublespeak is all around us.  We are asked to check our packages at the desk ‘for our convenience’ when it’s not for our convenience at all but for someone else’s convenience.  We see advertisements for ‘preowned,’ ‘experienced’ or ‘previously distinguished’ cars, not used cars and for ‘genuine imitation leather,’ ‘virgin vinyl’ or ‘real counterfeit diamonds.'” (William Lutz)

To depict more clearly how much society is controlled by doublespeak, consider that there was a time when a popular person caught in a major wrongdoing would be forced into obscurity by outrage by the public and shame.  Now they simply deny and doublespeak until all the dust settles.  It is not long before he or she is treated with respect and honor as if nothing ever happened.  Politicians today are caught in sexual scandals, financial improprieties, making shady deals, and etcetera, but survive because they continued to deny and doublespeak until the atmosphere clears.  It works quite well because of the fact that people get tired of a news story after a few days.  Additionally, people are not easily outraged nowadays, and certainly not for a very long period.  As a result, we now have a significant number of people governing our nation that, if not for their fame, would never be allowed permission to enter our homes.  What is even more ominous is the fact that many politicians now believe that they can get away with almost everything.   They not only make themselves appear innocent, they make themselves likeable.   As the words become more clever, the fruit becomes more poisonous or rotten.

Noam Chomsky makes the following statement about doublespeak in Manufacturing Consent: The Political Economy of the Mass Media.

The point is that in a … totalitarian state, it doesn’t much matter what people think because … you can control what they do. But when the state loses the bludgeon, when you can’t control people by force and when the voice of the people can be heard, … you have to control what people think. And the standard way to do this is to resort to what in more honest days used to be called propaganda.  Manufacture of consent.  Creation of necessary illusions.”

To illustrate the degree of deception that doublespeak can produce, one individual compared doublespeak to an experiment where one group of rats were fed sugar water and another group was fed saccharine water.  When they were deprived of food, none of the rats in either group appeared to be hungry.  However, the rats that were fed saccharine water died from starvation.

“This experiment suggests certain analogies between the environments created for rats by the scientists and the environments created for us humans by language and the various mass media of communication.  Like the saccharine environment, an environment created or infiltrated by doublespeak provides the appearance of nourishment and the promise of survival, but the appearance is illusionary and the promise false.” (Terrence Moran)

It is important to realize how doublespeak is affecting Christianity today.  We are obviously in a different period.  Something has changed in the past few decades that has turned secular society into a maze of lies.  Trying to get to the truth about each controversial matter is very difficult.  Attempting to convince a significant number of people about a deceiver and his/her deception is a near impossible task.   It takes volumes of words to expose the works of the deceiver or heretic.  However, in the past decade, an cacophony of lying voices have now invaded Christianity.    This is a period of intense deception and apostasy.  In fact, I believe that this is the period prophesied by the Apostle Paul in 2 Thessalonians 2:9-10:

“The coming of the lawless one is according to the working of Satan, with all power, signs, and lying wonders, and with all unrighteous deception among those who perish, because they did not receive the love of the truth, that they might be saved.”

“One will not be able to detect them by their words, by their appearance, or by any other visible means except their fruit.”

This means that an unprecedented number of lying spirits have been unleashed in this world.  There are many wolves that make no attempt to hide their wolfishness, but there are many more wolves in sheep’s clothing.  We ought to be aware and not forget that Christ declared there was only one way to recognize a wolf in sheep’s clothing.  One will not be able to detect them by their words, by their appearance, or by any other visible means except their fruit.  The religious wolves know this very well.  They also know that most people are subject to having their attention diverted from their fruit to something less important.  All the wolf has to do is mesmerize them with doublespeak, and they submit their minds and spirits.

Satan, the master wolf, is literally controlling the world today with doublespeak.  Christ declared that Satan was a liar from the beginning.  In the beginning, Satan used doublespeak to convince Eve to disobey (Genesis 3:1-4).  He convinced her that she would be like God.  Similarly, he is convincing a plethora of Christians today that they can be gods.  The fact is that Satan lied and his emissaries are lying today.  Their lies are practically undetectable by the undiscerning masses because they are woven with doublespeak.

“What is really important in the world of doublespeak is the ability to lie, whether knowingly or unconsciously, and to get away with it; and the ability to use lies and choose and shape facts selectively, blocking out those that don’t fit an agenda or program.” (Edward S. Herman)

Doublespeak has become a powerful force in Christianity in these last days.  That is probably due in great measure to the outpouring of satanic deception with an inundation of demon spirits.  False Christians have come to realize that the method works very well.  They now use it to do whatever they wish while avoiding the consequences.  When they are confronted, they simply deny the charges, speak all the right words that portray them as true Christians, and doublespeak.  In the process, they shift the focus from their fruit to semantics, and eventually to their accuser(s).  Often, they are able to paint their accuser(s) as harsh, bitter, ignorant, or of having some carnal agenda for attacking them.  As a result, they have attained high levels of fame, influence, and wealth.   Heresy is invading on a large scale so that virtually no one is unaffected.   Paganism has been introduced into Christianity practically unhindered through Contemplative Spirituality.  Chrislam is gaining momentum as at least one large denomination has formed an alliance with Islamic groups.  Other heresies and heretical people are spreading at a rapid rate throughout Christianity with little or no resistance.  It was predictable that doublespeak would eventually be employed as a tactic by heretics, but I do not know of anyone that predicted it on this scale.  However, if it can be used to control a nation, why wouldn’t wicked people use it to control Christianity?

An example of how the religious wolf uses words to counter charges that might expose him is as follows.  A famous pastor was recently accused of “partnering” with Muslims. He vehemently denied “partnering” with Muslims, but insisted that he was “building a bridge”. Partner means; “Somebody who is involved in an activity with somebody else.”  Bridge-building means; “Efforts to establish communications and friendly contacts between people in order to make them friends, allies, and etcetera”.   It is obvious that the pastor knows that he is involved in activities with Muslims, and therefore has partnered with them. He may indeed build a bridge, but that bridge is to facilitate involvement in activities with Muslims.  But by attacking the word “partnering” and redefining it, he is able to distract the reader from main topic.  He manipulated the semantics, plus extolled his virtues, and thus shifted the focus from him to his detractors.  There is no fear of any serious repercussions for his actions (fruit) because he knows that the greater majority of people will be influenced by his words.  If you ignore his doublespeak and simply consider his works (fruit), you realize that he is doing exactly what you thought he was doing before becoming distracted by his doublespeak.

(Part Two)

How Much Do You Love God?

So when they had eaten breakfast, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon, son of Jonah, do you love Me more than these?” (John 21:15 NKJV)

I have wondered, what exactly did Christ mean by “these”. Did he point to the fishing nets and vessel, the source of Peter’s livelihood? Maybe he motioned toward the rest of the disciples that were with Peter. It really does not matter what He used as a contrast of Peter’s love for Him. It is important to recognize that Christ wanted Peter (and us) to realize that following Him had to be a total commitment of more than words. It must be a commitment of love so powerful that no one or nothing else could be loved greater. This truth is not spoken about in Christian assemblies nowadays. Instead, it is all about how much God loves us, dotes on our every need, and is super-sensitive to our every whim. Such a God is not much more than a magical genie that has no concern about our spiritual condition, but focuses only on our health, wealth, and comfort. In fact, the spiritual condition is rarely brought up. Further, this magical god makes no demands or even serious implications that we love him in return. At least, he appears not to require a quality and depth of love that would cause one to suffer rather than deny him. This false concept of God also produces weak Christians that fall into despair and faithlessness at the the first sign of the slightest problem. Is that the measure of love that Christ was teaching Peter about?

Recently, I read a statement by a professing Christian that went something like the following. “I really love the Lord, but I fell into drug and alcohol abuse. But all the time I was in bondage, I still loved the Lord.” I thought, “No, you really didn’t love the Lord”. I have also heard other people say about a professing Christian, “He loves the Lord, but he cheats on his wife.” Again, that man does not love the Lord or his wife. The truth is that the phrase, “I love the Lord” has become a generic phrase that attempts to convey the fact that the individual believes that he or she is still a valid Christian regardless of the degree of or type of their sin. It is synonymous with the phrase, “go to church’. If you ask a nominal Christian if he or she is a Christian they commonly respond with, “I go to church.” then they tell you the name of the church. Those phrases ought to be filed in the same category with other obnoxious and clumsy terms such as, “I’m just a sinner sinner saved by grace.” A better statement would be, “I was sinner, now I’m saved by grace.”

Another truth is that God requires us to keep His commandments as proof of our love. Christ said, “If you love Me, keep My commandments” (John 14:15). He repeats it in the 21st verse; “He who has My commandments and keeps them, it is he who loves Me.” We don’t need to prove our love to Him. God knows perfectly well whether or not we love Him. We need to prove our love for Him to the world and to ourselves. However, people do not wish to recognize that they have fallen out of love with God. The consequences are too undesirable to think about. So they find a belief system within Christianity (and there are many) that permits them to drift to whatever level of compromise with sin that they wish to descend to and remain as viable as the most devout Christian that has ever entered eternity.

Thus, the Christian identity has become corrupted by people who hold to the belief that they are valid Christians in spite of the fact that they have become incredible sinners. Two things are for certain; they do not love God and are no longer Christians. The evidence that they do not love God is in the fact that they reject His will and obey His enemy. Additionally, a Christian is a follower of Christ. One cannot cease to follow Christ and remain a Christian. No one can prevent them from claiming the title, but their claim is invalid. The questions that lost individuals ask are as follows. Can one cease to love God, reject Christianity, and remain saved? Will such a one be escorted into heaven and eternal life based on a profession while ones that have made no profession are condemned to eternal hell with a much lesser load of sins? Is grace nothing more than hell insurance? Is such grace an incentive to sin because there are no consequences? When one answers those questions I would advise him or her not to ignore the volume of God’s word, the Holy Spirit, and simply provide a rote reference to a denominational creed or catechism.

The fact is that loving God will not protect a person from ever making a mistake or committing a sin. However, the more that you love Him the less likely you are to sin. The same is true in a marital relationship. The more you love your spouse, the less likely you are to sin against him or her. I have counseled with men that physically abused their wives. When confronted with the consequences, they would tearfully remark, “I love her with all my heart.” Really? That simply is not true. I once counseled with a former minister that had become a crack addict. He told me, “I really love the Lord and I love my family.” I replied, “No you do not.” He argued that I was wrong and that he was simply under an attack of Satan. I asked him, “If you really love the Lord and your family, when it comes to choosing between crack cocaine and the Lord and your family, which do you choose?” The fact is that your decisions and actions define your love. That is precisely what Christ is declaring in John 14: 15 and 21.

God did not say to the Loadicean church, “I know that you love me 50%, so even though you are wretched, miserable, poor, blind, and naked, that’s okay. After all, you just sinners saved by grace.” Here is what He said about their degree of love for Him.

“I know your works, that you are neither cold nor hot. I could wish you were cold or hot. So then, because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will vomit you out of My mouth. Because you say, ‘I am rich, have become wealthy, and have need of nothing’—and do not know that you are wretched, miserable, poor, blind, and naked— “ (Revelation 3:15-17 NKJV)

God is a consuming fire and the world system is a consuming cold. People need to realize that lukewarm is approximately 50% hot and 50% cold. Therefore, it is not about declaring, “I love the Lord” , but about what degree that you love Him. Is it 50 degrees? 70? 90 degrees and rising? We should determine what is keeping us from 100 degrees and deal with it. We ought to just admit it when we do not love Him with all our heart, mind, soul, and strength. Why not simply be honest and confess to being lukewarm rather than pretend that we love Him while wallowing in the mire of sin. Additionally, if we are called to be shepherds, we should not allow people to slide deeper into sin with the claim that they love God when in fact they are in an adulterous relationship with the world system. The fact is that many professing Christians are in love with the idea of God who loves them, and with the idea of Christ that loved them enough to die for them. They are not in love with the person of God and Christ. They certainly do not appear to be in love with God that demands obedience and requires commitment to godliness. Hence, when Satan comes along with a platter of hypocrisy, they run after him jumping and skipping down the broad path, The more we love Him, the more we know Him. The more we know Him, the more we acquiesce with His divine nature (2 Peter 1:2-4), transforming our minds by renewal (Romans 12:2) so that we have the mind of Christ (Philippians 2:5).

True Christians need to strive for perfect love. Perfect love is so complete with the ingredients of obedience, acceptance of God’s divine nature, and rejection of wickedness, that we will not entertain any competition for that love. That does not mean we ought to become ascetic legalists that abhor bright colors and laughter. The balance may be found in the verse;

“For this is the will of God, that by doing good you may put to silence the ignorance of foolish men—as free, yet not using liberty as a cloak for vice, but as bondservants of God. (1 Peter 2:15-16 NKJV).

We are in the world, but the world ought not to be in us. It should not control our desires, emotions, decisions or actions. And if we love Him to the point of joy, it will be difficult for temptation to lure us away. We should always remember that God loves us 100% and sent His Son Jesus Christ to give His life 100% to pay 100% the debt of our sin so that we could have 100% eternal life. If we are going to love Him any less, we ought to acknowledge the truth so that we do not misrepresent the difference between hot, cold, and lukewarm.

The State of Christianity

The State of Christianity

When I write about Christianity or read what someone else has written, I find myself thinking about how impossible it is to fully inform someone about the state of affairs in Christianity.  An example is like describing college to someone that has never been to first grade.  It would take a large amount of information that most people would not sit still for.  However, if I reduced it down to a few paragraphs, the presentation would be too weak to alarm anyone.  For example, we are in the last days, the great deception, delusion, and apostasy has finally arrived, and multitudes have been lured into its great vortex.  The consequence of ignoring this period and the rapidly changing status of Christianity is to become a casualty.  It is an eternal consequence.  You could lose your soul.

There, does that alarm anyone?  I think not many.  I have to add facts, and that is where it gets ponderous and mindboggling.  I must begin with the fact that a number of the major denominations are succumbing to New Age influence.  The door was cracked open by the Word of Faith Movement and the undisciplined and unaccountable Charismatic Movement.  After years of a steady stream of heresy and fostering a cavalier attitude toward God and His kingdom, the Seeker Friendly Movement arrived.  That morphed into the Emerging Church, which is now called the Emergent Church.  The Emergent Church is nearly synonymous with the New Age Movement.  Heresy and paganism with its rituals is flowing unhindered through the Emergent Church into main stream Christianity.  Clothed with Christian symbolism, terms and phrases, it has crept into nearly every denomination.  Additionally, there is a huge effort to bring Christianity into ecumenism with all religions.  The stated goal of Emergent leaders is to unite all religions under the auspices of the Roman Catholic Church.  The vehicle of this unity is the Spiritual Formation Movement and its main component Contemplative Prayer.  Spiritual Formation involves gurus, called spiritual directors that are trained in eastern mysticism.   It would take a very large book to present all the details, the players involved in the plot to destroy Christianity, and the spiritual climate that allowed it to occur.

How bad is the situation?  It is beyond critical mass.  If I laid all the facts out it would appear as bizarre as if I declared that a space ship had landed in the town square and aliens are handing out autographs.  The list of individuals involved reads like a “Who’s Who” in Christianity and the New Age Movement.  Many leaders of mega churches and denominational leaders appear to make no distinction between the two onetime nemeses’.  It is easier to list the major figures that are not involved in the apostasy than to list the ones who are.  In the opinion of many discerning individuals, if something doesn’t halt this spread of diabolical heresy Christianity is finished.  However, the same individuals do not believe that it can be turned around; that it is too far gone to salvage.  Some churches and denominations have gone beyond the heresy and paganism to embrace hedonism.  Some leaders have blasphemed God and the Holy Spirit with their audacious statements concerning His righteousness and Gospel.

Why don’t we know about it?  The answer is because the apostasy is occurring from the top down.  Some of the leaders who opposed it have been marginalized, ostracized, and even excommunicated from their denominations.  This has put fear into the hearts of the rest.  They fear losing their positions and pastorates, or having to find secular jobs to survive economically, and losing their minister’s benefits.  Thus, they step into pulpits each Sunday and act as if nothing is going on.  The more dutiful pastors will teach from literature sent to them by the denomination for the purpose of indoctrinating the laity to accept the apostasy.  By the time the laity discovers what has occurred, it will be too late to do anything about it but leave their churches.   The truth is that there are millions of people meeting every Sunday across this nation that are unaware of what is about to occur and are totally unprepared for it.

Can we do anything at all to stop it?  I don’t believe it can be stopped.  All that is left at this point is to pray and prepare ourselves for the arrival of the rapidly approaching storm.  It has been described by some as an avalanche devouring everything in its past.  I view it as a massive off-the-scale tornado large enough to sweep over the entire world.  Most professing Christians are not prepared because they have put too much trust in a pastor to protect them from everything evil.  They are too caught up in the affairs of this life to gather knowledge for themselves.  They are spiritual anemic, prayerless, unknowledgeable, and unprepared.  Their ears are dull of hearing and they have no spiritual sight.  Their appetite for truth is at a dangerously low level.  Other ones that have gotten wind of the diabolical storm are in denial, resorting to the old cop out of giving the heretical leaders the “benefit of the doubt” and “touch not mine anointed”.  They will continue to do that until their movement or denomination melts into the coming one-world religion.  It adds up to the fact that most professing Christians are completely off guard.  They see no purpose of having more than the modicum of spirituality they need to get through each day.  However, most of them barely struggle through any day that gives them the smallest increase of inconvenience.  How are they going to survive when hit with a diabolical storm that has the propensity to crush the faith of the very elect?

What can we do to survive?  Survival depends on focusing on the eternal realm.  Paul described it as setting your mind on things above, and not on things below (Colossians 3:2).  One may not have the ability to recognize the works of darkness in the temporal realm if he or she is not living in harmony with God.  You must know God’s word for yourself, not just what someone tells you that it means.  It is essential to get informed.  Not only do you need to know about heresies that are invading Christianity, you need to know the ones who are propagating them.  Remember what Christ declares in Matthew 24:24, that the deception would be very clever.  Consider that the apostle Paul declared,

The coming of the lawless one is according to the working of Satan, with all power, signs, and lying wonders, and with all unrighteous deception among those who perish, because they did not receive the love of the truth, that they might be saved. (2 Thessalonians 2:9-10 NKJV).

If we are warned about an incredible period of deception, an atmosphere so thick with deception of every possible type, including extremely powerful and deceptive false miracles, should we not be knowledgeable, alert, discerning, and able to defend ourselves?  Each professing Christian ought to ask him or herself if what his or her status is at the present.

Finally, you need to know who the deceivers are.  I cannot list all the people that, in my opinion, are spreading very deceptive and dangerous heresy, but here are a few.  First, I want to state a couple of qualifiers.  If you are already deceived, this list will anger you.  Some of the people on the list are condoning the heresy.  Because of their position of great influence, their assent to heresy has the potential to adversely affect many people.  Other ones have written books that amount to a path to deception.  There are also teachers, preachers, pastors, prophets, and a whole host of mystics and even New Age gurus on the list.  All of them claim to be Christians and all insist that God supports their heresy.

I’m certain that I have left some significant people off the list, and I may add to it in the future.  But the list is complete enough that one can recognize that depth and scope of the deception.  There are also heads of Denominations, Christian Organizations, and Ministries, that are condoning and even promoting Spiritual Formation and Contemplative Prayer.  J. P. Moreland supports Contemplative Spirituality.  J. I. Packer signed the heretical and unequally yoked “Evangelicals and Catholics Together: The Christian Mission in the Third Millennium.”  Max Lucado supports and actively promotes Contemplative Spirituality.  George Wood, General Superintendent of the Assemblies of God invited a new age guru to speak at the General Council.  He has been engaged in other activities that are certain to bring many under the influence of deception.  Charles Stanley’s staff has been engaged in promoting Contemplative Prayer.  Billy Graham declares that his views about scriptural salvation have changed over the years.  He is on video as declaring to Robert Schuller that Muslims, Buddhists, and other pagans can get to heaven another way than through scriptural salvation.  Graham has also gone on record to praise the Pope, which I find deplorable.  In fact, Richard Foster is holding his heretical Renovare Conference at The Billy Graham Training Center at the Cove in Asheville, NC in 2013.  Billy and Franklin Graham joined a list of heretics to speak at the 2008 heretical Catalyst Conference. James Robinson has had several New Age/Contemplative individuals on his program.  He gave glowing endorsement for Ann VosKamp and her heretical and very deceptive book, One Thousand Gifts”.   The result will be a plethora of individual coming under Voskamp’s deception.  I should not have to mention The Trinity Broadcasting Network.  In my opinion it is a spring of heresy that continually flows into many unsuspecting households across the world.

I’ve done my part.  The rest is up to the individual.  He or she can ignore me or pray, search God’s word, and do some research about the heresies and the heretics involved in spreading them. The truth is clear.  One can take it leave it.  But we must remember that Satan is always ready with a very clever substitute.
