(Heb 6:4-6 NKJV) "For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted the heavenly gift, and have become partakers of the Holy Spirit, {5} and have tasted the good word of God and the powers of the age to come, {6} if they fall away, to renew them again to repentance, since they crucify again for themselves the Son of God, and put Him to an open shame."
(Heb 10:26-29 NKJV) "For if we sin willfully after we have received the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, {27} but a certain fearful expectation of judgment, and fiery indignation which will devour the adversaries. {28} Anyone who has rejected Moses' law dies without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses. {29} Of how much worse punishment, do you suppose, will he be thought worthy who has trampled the Son of God underfoot, counted the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified a common thing, and insulted the Spirit of grace?"
It is a popular consensus in the "Unconditional Eternal Security" genre that all one's sins are forgiven, past and present who have confessed Christ as Lord and Savior forever. This is translated into the idea that one's sins are forgiven before they are even committed, so there is no possible way a Christian can sin their way out of grace. In fact, the UES doctrine, if followed to its logical conclusion, promotes the belief that no type or quantity of sin can void one's salvation. Thus, grace is viewed as more of an insurance policy against hell than the unmerited favor of God for His faithful children. The doctrine of UES is promoted mainly in the Baptist religious organizations. There are several major problems created by such an aberrant interpretation of the Scriptures. First of all, it promotes antinomianism, as is clearly evident in the lifestyle of the majority who adhere to the doctrine of UES. Antinomianism is the doctrine that some Christians, by virtue of their special faith, do not have to obey the moral laws of the Old Testament. The Antinomian controversy first appeared during the 16th-cent. Protestant Reformation as a doctrinal dispute involving one of M. Luther's fellow reformers, J. Agricola. Opposed by Luther, Agricola recanted by 1540. Subsequently, some radical Anabaptists and several sects in the 17th and 18th century England were accused of antinomianism. The current Baptist organizations descended from the Protestant Anabaptist, or Christian Brethren. this movement flourished in Germany, Austria, the Netherlands, and other countries. The basic belief of the Anabaptists was in adult baptism, but they also supported the separation of church and state and voluntary church membership. While there was no direct development from the Anabaptists to the growth of the Baptist churches in England, it is very likely that the latter were influenced in their beliefs and attitudes by the continental Brethren. 1 The majority of UES proponents believe that there are no eternal consequences of committing sin. Some may propose the idea that one can lose their reward, but never their soul. I would have to ask how God could take rewards away from sinless people. If it is enough sin to cause one to lose a reward, it is enough sin to send one to hell. God either judges or He does not judge a person guilty of sin. It is rather convenient to suggest we can pick our punishment when we sin and therefore pick loss of reward over hell. In any case, UES does not present any reason not to sin. If there is no punishment, why not sin all you please? This poses another problem for some Baptist organizations. Some independent groups who believe in UES try to offset the disastrous effects of this erroneous belief by promoting legalism. Such an effort would be laughable if it were not so damaging. Imagine speaking out of both sides of one's mouth, first to proclaim that no amount or type of sin can disqualify one's salvation, then to declare the terror of committing sin. Such a contradiction can only further one's disdain for the commandments of God and His judgement. Most of these groups carry their campaign to end this non-sin sin to the umpteenth degree of nonsense by applying punishment to offenders while all the time declaring God will not do so. This too presents a maze of confusion about the nature of God. UES, which is a basic misunderstanding of grace is also reflected in the classic error of John Calvin who promoted the doctrine, Perseverance of the Saints, as a part of his overall perversion of the gospel truth. A majority of UES proponents do not accept the Calvinist doctrine of Election, or predestination, but eagerly latch onto his doctrine of grace-licensed licentiousness. Failing to understand the Bible, and heavily influenced by the Catholic church, namely the writings of Augustan, Calvin fashioned his doctrines to harmonize in a sense with basic Roman Catholicism. Once a Roman Catholic, always a Roman Catholic is the doctrine. No one can sin their way out of the Roman Catholic church as long as they repent to papa, (the priest who represents the pope who stands in for God) even if they are not truly sorry for their sin and intend to commit it again. Popular USE proponent, Bob George, wrote a book entitled, Classic Christianity. Although he does not explicitly say so in his book, Mr. George implies that the believer's sins are already fully forgiven and there is no need to confess them. He bases this error on the Calvinist idea that once a person enters the salvation contract with God, he may break it as often as he wishes, while on the other hand, God cannot end the contract. Only a simple understanding of the nature and ability of God is required to recognize the failure of such thinking. First of all, it requires God to be tricked or stupid. Heaven forbid on both counts! The doctrine proposes God was tricked into an agreement with mankind that allows them to be as wicked as they wish without any recourse for God. As the result, He can't even keep them out or kick them out of His kingdom. The second proposition is that God was not wise enough to foresee the problems with establishing such a one-way contract that allows His people to emulate His enemy without eternal consequence, or even drastic consequences for that matter. I will testify to the fact that God is neither susceptible to trickery or stupidity. Of course these two propositions are hidden under the guise of what is called His love. They declare that the reason God is so loose with His salvation program is because He loves us and mankind is so irreversibly wicked that He has to give us grace to sin or destroy us. This fatalistic reasoning forbids many Scriptures in the Bible that requires us to change our old nature with the help of the Holy Spirit until it conforms to His nature. I refer the reader to the two texts above that denounce the irrational premise underneath the doctrine of USE. First of all, the text in Hebrews declare that, "if they fall away, to renew them again to repentance, since they crucify again for themselves the Son of God, and put Him to an open shame." It is important to note here that the original text did not contain the word if. This was added by notorious Calvinist, Theodore Beza, who edited the textus receptus, which was the work of Erasmas, a devout Roman Catholic. The following scripture is closer to the original autograph.
This makes it clear that it is not a question if one can fall away, but that one can fall away and therefore lose their salvation. The Greek word for the term, fall away, is parapipto, meaning to fall aside, i.e. (fig.) to apostatize:--fall away. It is impossible to renew such a person to repentance. This means that such a person cannot not be brought repentance in their apostate condition. They must abandon that form of life and come back to the throne of grace with true repentance. I also need to make clear what true repentance is. Repentance is taught today as the act of mouthing the words, "I'm sorry, please forgive me Lord." It is thought that as soon as those words are uttered, all the sin is wiped out instantaneously. Biblical repentance paints a much different picture. Repentance is an act of the heart, not the mouth alone. There is no true repentance without godly sorrow. Consider the following words of the apostle Paul.
Paul rebuked the Corinthians in his first letter for committing and allowing sin in their midst. Their repentance was the result of a brokenness that manifested in godly sorrow. This led to a true repentance. One has not repented until they are so sorry for their sin that they are broken. Repentance means a change of heart.
The Hebrew word for repent here is nacham, which means to sigh, i.e. breathe strongly; by implication, to be sorry, to have a change of heart. I have observed that most UES proponents do not seem to be sorry that their sin is wrong, or that it offended God, or that it could cause them to lose their salvation or regress into worse sin, but rather that they were caught and embarrassed, or incurred several other complications and inconveniences as a result of being caught. These complications and inconveniences are termed the chastising of the Lord. Of course this is not the case since His chastising is a spiritual action. Their problems that were the result of being caught in sin are consequences of sin, no chastising of God. Greater consequences are to follow in the eternal realm if that sin is not sincerely repented over and the sinner move out of the fallen condition into the state of total surrender to God. The second text declares that there is no sacrifice for willful sin. The person who enters willful sin is leaving the sacrificial covering that Jesus provided by His death. The danger such a soul is in can be realized by the warnings that follow this declaration.
These words cannot be explained other than to understand that those who commit willful sin is in the most terrible danger of eternal damnation. Just in case someone would apply this text to lost souls or to the Jewish people, notice that the phrase "counted the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified a common thing, and insulted the Spirit of grace," forbids such an error. The person who has strayed out into the realm of sin has left the sacrificial covering. The only way back is to appeal to the Advocate, Jesus Christ, that He might petition the Father. However, UES adherents consistently enter a sordid life of willful sin and even remain in it until they die with no fear of God. They teach the lost world that Christianity is not about being Christlike, but about taking advantage of God's loose or careless salvation plan. This is the mind set of seeing how much one can get away with, not how close one can draw to God and emulate His nature. Grace is not a license to live demonically in communion with a world ravaged by the powers of sin, indulging in its wickedness, imbibed with its sinful pleasures. It is the space to repent, the much needed favor with God that we should spend in His presence with fear and trembling repenting of our rebellion against His nature in us, the Holy Spirit. Those who have the idea that they can play with devils in this life and live with angels in the next had better take notice of all God's Word, not a few scriptures twisted out of context and meaning by men such as Bob George and other UES proponents. There has always been an extra door or an alternate path that presents the choice to every believer whether to obey flesh or God's will. Satan has presented some very good lies that are cleverly designed to appeal to human logic and reason. UES is just another one of those clever lies that has damned millions to hell and will damn millions more should the end of this age tarry. The litmus test of all doctrine is whether it draws you nearer to God, deeper into His Word of truth, or further away. UES proponents try to skirt this test by declaring they are nearer to God by default, thereby ignoring all the constants in His Word that declare otherwise. If I give someone a test to prove their knowledge of a subject, and they decline the test by giving the reason that they know all about the topic, we remain at square one and we have not even begun to prove a thing. They have presented their unsubstantiated word as a qualified replacement for the test. The test could prove conclusively whether or not their word is true, but they will not submit to it. UES proponents are basically doing the same thing. They are declaring that they are sinless forever and no test is needed to prove that declaration of their condition. God's Word is the test that they refuse to apply. Instead, they stand on their own word while declaring that it is His Word. If it is indeed His Word, then it should be able to stand the test. One such test is to inspect the fruit. UES cannot lead one to righteousness unless we count the Baptist default righteousness of self-declaration. In fact, it abates the fear of sinning against God by negating the possibility of judgment. This takes away the restraints leaving only man's love for God as the glue that binds them to holiness. Obviously, man's love cannot be enough since it has not kept UES adherents from descending into the very lair of Satan to frolic with his imps in darkness and ditches. Jesus said that the way you would recognize wolves in sheep's clothing was by their thorny fruit. This is fruit that is cursed and destined to takes those who bear such to a fiery hell.
Another test is to test their spirits. The spirit of people who deny the lordship of Christ is not always easy to discern. If you listen closely, you will usually hear the words of the UES licentious doctrine emanating from their deceived minds. Even when their lifestyle seems appropriate, we have to remember that Paul warned that Satan's ministers would appear as ministers of righteousness, not ministers of unrighteousness.
The devil is very good at being a devil. He is smart enough to know that if all his subjects live according to the error they teach that he will snare very few souls. However, if he presents a facade of people who appear righteous, then the doctrine will be readily acceptable. The condition of those who received the doctrine ought to be considered rather than the people bearing the poisonous seed. The tares appears as wheat until it comes to bearing fruit. Trees that appear beautiful, healthy, green and able to bear fruit, can yield thorns or poisonous fruit. Therefore, even if their personal lifestyle seems righteous, the next test is in the fruit, the product or output of a persons life. By these tests alone we can easily recognize that Unconditional Eternal Security is a false doctrine that leads souls to damnation. I encourage every one who is desirous of the truth to turn away from the doctrines that are fueling the current great apostasy in professing Christianity. The days are getting darker and many are falling away. There is no sound judgment in making oneself more susceptible to being a casualty in this war by adopting false doctrine. Only the truth can set us free and keep us free. (John 8:32 NKJV) ""And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free."" (36) ""Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed."
