For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has
made me free from the law of sin and death. {3} For what the law could not do in
that it was weak through the flesh, God did by sending His own Son in the
likeness of sinful flesh, on account of sin: He condemned sin in the flesh, {4}
that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us who do not
walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.(Romans 8:2-4 NKJV)
One of the most important spiritual laws God gave us is the law
of the Spirit of Life. It is the perfect law of liberty.
But whoso
looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful
hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed. (James
1:25)
God's spiritual laws are like any true law in that they cannot be
broken without consequences. You cannot jump off a building and defy the law of gravity
without some device that will assist you in defeating the law of gravity. You could say,
"I don't believe in the law of gravity so I'm not going to pay any attention to
it." Yet the consequences will indelibly stamp into your conscious mind, probably
with a chunk of sidewalk cement, that the law of gravity doesn't care what you
believe...it's going to work anyway. God's laws are the same way. It doesn't matter what
we say or believe, Gods laws are still going to stand. So we need to learn how to abide by
them.
Obeying the Law of the Spirit of Life in Christ Jesus is the way
to appropriate the victory Jesus won. To understand this law we must see how it is broken,
then we can how to obey it. I know this seems backward but it is not. How do we know not
to touch the hot stove unless we touch it and understand the meaning of the word
"hot?" We break a law when we do that. We know how the law of gravity works when
we fall or observe something falling. In the same context we understand how the law
works by observing what happens when it is broken.
We do not personally have to break God's laws to understand
them. The Word of God declares the consequences of such an error. All we have to do is
simply observe or understand what happens when His spiritual laws are broken. God's
word tells us what happens when His laws are broken. When we see the lost world breaking
God's laws and view the results, we discover quickly the result of such error. We can also
see people in the bible that have broken God's laws and the consequences of their errors.
Understanding the Law of the Spirit of Life in Christ Jesus
starts with acknowledging this fact, flesh is a conductor between the spiritual wickedness
on the outside and the spirit on the inside of mankind. It is a dead conductor when we
obey the Law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus. Just as Adam and Eve were safe from
the devices of Satan as long as they remained in God's will, so are we safe when we abide
in the will of the Father. Satan has to cause disobedience in us by stirring up and
activating the flesh with temptation. Adam and Eve didn't have to sin. The fact that
God told them not to eat the fruit means they had a choice. The law of God was
simple, "don't eat the fruit." What part of "don't eat the fruit" did
they not understand?
Satan complicated the law of God with lies, deception and
temptation, which caused confusion in Eve. Confusion led to a wrong decision and she
ate the fruit. At that point Satanic influence which was on the outside came on the
inside. They became fearful of God. Where did that come from? It did not come from within.
The law of the Spirit of Life in Christ Jesus is simple,
"don't walk in the flesh." Galatians 5:16 spells it out, "This I say
then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh." The entire
old testament law is fulfilled in another law which is this, (14) " For all the law
is fulfilled in one word, even in this; Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself."
By this scripture we can see that the law of the Spirit of Life in Christ
Jesus is a New Covenant law fulfilled in this, "don't walk in the flesh."
Disobedience revives the flesh to life activating the conductor
between us and Satan. This allows satanic influence to be transmitted into our
spirit. We ought to avoid disobedience like a deadly disease for once the door to the
flesh is unlocked Satan can attack your spirit and conflict begins. It doesn't matter what
is happening on the outside, it only becomes your problem when you let it on the inside.
If it remains on the outside, it's God's problem and He really doesn't have problems. A
man of God once said, "When you're in the storm, don't let the storm get in
you."
That leads us to several solid truths about satanic conflict, and that is:
1. Almost all of the trouble we have with the devil comes from people who are submitted to
him or events on the outside in the World System. There are those exceptional times when
we actually encounter satanic affliction that did not come through people. Yet the
majority of the time we are attacked by people who are submitted to him or events caused
by him. He cannot touch us except with permission (Job 1:10-12).
2. The conflict that is imposed on us by people cannot defeat us if we do not allow the
flesh to become a conductor for them. We have to keep them on the outside by prayer,
reading the word and submission to God. There may be anger all around us but it cannot
affect us unless we allows ourselves to get angry. Then our peace and stability is gone
and the influence of Satan attacks us. Greed, sexual sins, pride, and many other evil
fruits of wickedness are about us but cannot touch us unless we activate the flesh from
within by disobedience and allow those things to come inside.
3. The conductor of flesh is dead as long as we walk in the Law of the Spirit of Life in
Christ Jesus. Abiding in the Law of the Spirit of Life in Christ Jesus means we are in
obedience to His perfect will. The Divine nature is cohabiting with our human nature,
transforming it, teaching it, renewing it, until it becomes so like the nature of God that
we are one with Him. Take two pieces of identical clay and mold them together. Though they
are actually two, they have blended into one. So we have the mind of Christ when our mind
becomes so like His mind they appear as one. Such a person cannot sin no more than Christ
could have sinned.
Some people would say, "This is impossible." If so,
then why did God put in His word these scriptures:
(11) "And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some,
evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers;
(12) For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of
the body of Christ:
(13) Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God,
unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ:"
(Eph. 4:11-13)
Jesus said, (30) Hereafter I will not talk much with you: for the prince of this world
cometh, and hath nothing in me (John 14:30).
God did not say we would attain to the measure of the stature
of Christ...but the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ. That is a completely
reachable goal. Thus, satanic conflict comes when we do not obey the law of the
Spirit of Life in Christ Jesus. In effect, when we do not obey the Law of the Spirit of
Life we neglect the first law of spiritual warfare found in Ephesians
6:13-14.
(13) "Wherefore
take unto you the whole armor of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day,
and having done all, to stand.
(14) Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the
breastplate of righteousness;" (Ephesians 6:13-14)
As long as we stand in the law of the Spirit of Life in Christ
Jesus we appropriate His victory. When we quit standing, we become entangled again in the
yoke of bondage (Gal. 5:1 (1) "Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith
Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage."
And Peter says this in 2 Pet. 2:!9-20, (19) While they promise them liberty, they
themselves are the servants of corruption: for of whom a man is overcome, of the same is
he brought in bondage.
20 For if after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the
Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled therein, and overcome, the latter
end is worse with them than the beginning.
When we disobey and do not stand, Satan brings his yoke and puts
bondage on us, forces us to become slaves to his influence, parades us about before the
world as an example of failed Christianity and we are overcome by sin. Yet when we stand
in the law of the Spirit of Life in Christ Jesus, he cannot touch us, he can only touch
dead flesh.
Romans 6:16-22, says, (16) Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to
obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto
righteousness?
(17) But God be thanked, that ye were the servants of sin, but ye have obeyed from the
heart that form of doctrine which was delivered you.
(18) Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness.
(19) I speak after the manner of men because of the infirmity of your flesh: for as ye
have yielded your members servants to uncleanness and to iniquity unto iniquity; even so
now yield your members servants to righteousness unto holiness.
(20) For when ye were the servants of sin, ye were free from righteousness.
(21) What fruit had ye then in those things whereof ye are now ashamed? for the end of
those things is death.
(22) But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto
holiness, and the end everlasting life.
Satanic Methods of Activating the Flesh
The way Satan gets flesh activated is by temptation and yielding
to temptation. Temptation is satanic allurement. Satan tries to persuade us to yield to
the his information that is against the knowledge of Christ. He lies and mingles those
lies with the truth. Truth by its intrinsic nature becomes impure when a lie is mingled
in. You can take a glass of filthy water and add one drop of good water and there will be
no change. Yet if you take a glass of good water and add one drop of filthy water it
corrupts the whole glass. Mingling truth with a lie will not make a lie the truth...yet
mingling a lie with the truth will make it all a lie.
Gods Law of the Spirit of Life in Christ Jesus says anything that
exalts itself against the knowledge of Christ has to be cast down immediately. To allow
anything that is not of the Divine nature to reside in us is an attraction for temptation.
Another way Satan causes us to activate flesh is by causing us to
bond with fleshly or rebellious people. Flesh can bond to flesh and spirits bond to
spirits because they are of like substance. Water and oil do not mix. We have to be
careful who we bond with because of the possibility of a transferring of things from their
spirit to ours. This does not mean we avoid sinners, avoiding eating with sinners and
avoid fellowshipping with sinners for the purpose of winning them. Jesus was our example
in these matters. Yet when we do those things we must always keep the spirit of love as
the primary spiritual connection between us. Holy love is the most powerful force in the
world...nothing can contaminate it from without. That is the point we must minister from
when mixing with lost and even rebellious people.
Matthew 9:10-13, (10) And it came to pass, as Jesus sat at
meat in the house, behold, many publicans and sinners came and sat down with him and his
disciples.(11) And when the Pharisees saw it, they said unto his disciples, Why eateth
your Master with publicans and sinners? (12) But when Jesus heard that, he said unto them,
They that be whole need not a physician, but they that are sick.(13) But go ye and learn
what that meaneth, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice: for I am not come to call the
righteous, but sinners to repentance.
Luke 15:2-4, (2 ) And the Pharisees and scribes murmured,
saying, This man receiveth sinners, and eateth with them.(3) And he spake this parable
unto them, saying,(4) What man of you, having an hundred sheep, if he lose one of them,
doth not leave the ninety and nine in the wilderness, and go after that which is lost,
until he find it?
The problem is when we share joy, or happiness, or pleasure, or
some other spiritual thing besides the love of Christ with fleshly people then we bond
with them in the flesh and spirit and there is a potential for mingling of spiritual
things. If you take an electric wire and touch it to a piece of metal, then take another
electric wire from another source and touch it to that same piece of metal, the
electricity from both wires unify. The shared pleasure, joy, happiness, or whatever, is as
that piece of metal. The two separate wires are as each of the spirits that are sharing
that spiritual emotion. There is a potential for transference. So we must be very careful
who we share spiritual things such as emotions with. For this reason I do not watch
anything on television that stirs my spirit in a wrong manner emotionally. I know sinners
are also getting enjoyment from such things. I don't go out to have fun with sinners. I
don't even share a meal with a sinner until I know I am ready to eat without allowing a
mutual pleasure to form. I mingle with sinners with the motive of imparting His love to
them.
This sounds radical, but to keep our spirits free from being
contaminated and activating flesh we have to be careful what we allow to touch our spirit.
1 Cor. 15:33, (33) Be not deceived: evil communications corrupt good manners.
In conclusion, I will offer this Word from God, Eph. 1:17-23, (17)
That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit
of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him:
(18) The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope
of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints,(19) And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to
the working of his mighty power,(20) Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own
right hand in the heavenly places,(21) Far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that
is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come:(22) And hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things
to the church,(23) Which is his body, the fullness of him that filleth all in all.
Our power over Satan is staying in God's will, walking in the
Spirit, standing in the Law of the Spirit of Life in Christ Jesus, mortifying our members
which means flesh is a dead conductor. It cannot conduct Satan's influence no more than
plastic can conduct electricity. The battle is within, girding up the loins of your mind,
casting down the vain thoughts and being renewed and transformed in your mind until you
have the mind of Christ, growing into the measure of the stature of His fullness. That
which is without is not our problem. God is our rearguard, angels camp about us, faith is
our shield, Satan is defeated, Jesus is Lord, the Holy Spirit is within us, the word of
God saturates us, why should we be defeated? We will not if we fight the fight of faith
within us.
