Cedric Fisher: "earnestly contending for the faith."

What is the Great Falling Away?

“Now, brethren, concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our gathering together to Him, we ask you, not to be soon shaken in mind or troubled, either by spirit or by word or by letter, as if from us, as though the day of Christ had come. Let no one deceive you by any means; for that Day will not come unless the falling away comes first, and the man of [b]sin is revealed, the son of perdition, who opposes and exalts himself above all that is called God or that is worshiped, so that he sits as God in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God.”
2 Thessalonians 2:1-4

The great falling away (Greek: apostasia) is the great and final apostasy. One who falls away (apostatizes) has defected from faith in God. He or she is no longer is his or her spiritual position. Such a individual is no longer a child of God. His or her name has been blotted out of the Book of Life. They have returned to wallowing in the mire.

There is no indication in God’s word that they will recover from the great and final apostasy. For what can God do more than He has already done? Never has a generation of people had more given to them by God than these last days generations. They have regarded God’s gifts, including the Holy Spirit, as toys, and they played the harlot with demon spirits. They only sought self aggrandizement, not God’s will.

Furthermore, they despise the watchmen and truth speakers who warn them. No doubt they will, as their forefathers did, kill them and the prophets.

There is only one gift left that God can give them that they will accept without it being forced upon them. In fact they eagerly await that gift and have been preparing themselves for it with books, videos, conferences, in every church meeting, with prophecies, revelations, trips to “heaven”, face to face meetings with “Jesus”, music, Bible translations, and even weeping statues.

They need not do anything more because God has already given some of them that last gift. it is coming by special delivery to everyone that falls away. They need not to approve of more perverse people in ministry and leadership positions. They need not write or support any more books, such as “The Shack”, “Jesus Calling”, “The Circle Maker”, “Purpose Driven Church“, et cetera. There is no need to complete Chrislam or ecumenism with the Roman Catholic Church, but they will. They need not have more conferences such as “IF:Gathering”, “Bethel Conference”, “Catalyst Conference”, “Encounter: Jesus Culture”, “IHOP Conference”, et cetera.”

If the reader of this article has ceased following Christ to follow an individual, you are asking for that gift as well. You have decided that the leading of the Holy Spirit was too difficult of a relationship to develop. You agreed with the purveyors of heresy that they are God’s special envoys because they were more exciting and outlandish. You agree that a revelation from those arrogant ones that defend themselves with boasts and threats is more authoritative than God’s word. Finally, you agreed that those individuals should be made extremely wealthy for their delivery services.

To all of the ones mentioned in this article your gift has been delivered or is on its way. Are you excited? It’s directly from God just as you like it. It was designed especially for you. You’ve been presenting yourself as special, now it is time to prove that you are.

Your gift, the only gift left that God can give you, what you have been waiting, working, and wishing for. It is the end of the large rainbow created by the New Apostolic Reformation, Kenneth Copeland and the Prosperity Movement, The Charismatic Movement, and the huge number of other devouring locusts swarming on the souls of deceived professing Christians. Here it is!

Right, they did not receive the love for the truth so they get the grand delusion. Take your pick, but it ain’t both!
    Well said!

How can a person who has been born again and sealed by the Holy Spirit “lose” their salvation? Isn’t the apostasy those who have NEVER been born again? As Jesus said in Matthew 7:23 “I NEVER KNEW you, depart from Me you who practice lawlessness.” Can a believer be known of God and then Jesus says I NEVER knew you? No doubt a true believer can lose rewards and may even have his life shortened. But according to John 5:24 eternal life begins when we repent and believe/trust in Jesus. So Jesus’ grace is enough to save but not to keep? Jude 24, Romans 5:10, Colossians 1:13. We ought to just baptize true believers and kill ’em so that they can’t sin whatever sin would cause them to lose eternal life. Again, how much of what kind of sin to lose my position IN Christ?
ps I am NOT a Calvinist nor an Armenianist, just a simple believer in God’s word.

Apostasy is “defection from the faith.” How can someone defect from where he or she has never been? How can one be a branch in Christ and then be cast out, withered, thrown into the fire, and burned? We should read God’s word and do not cut-n-paste it to validate our doctrine.

“I am the true vine, and My Father is the vinedresser. Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit He takes away; and every branch that bears fruit He prunes, that it may bear more fruit. You are already clean because of the word which I have spoken to you. Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me. I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing. If anyone does not abide in Me, he is cast out as a branch and is withered; and they gather them and throw them into the fire, and they are burned.” – John 15:1-5

        Amen.
Apostasy is falling away from the faith. This can be by heresy, sin, compromise with other gods, etc.
Eternal security is not what the Bible teaches.

“But you have a few people in Sardis who have not soiled their garments; and they will walk with Me in white, for they are worthy. He who overcomes will thus be clothed in white garments; and I will not erase his name from the book of life, and I will confess his name before My Father and before His angels.”
        Revelation 3; 4-5
Jesus is speaking to the church. Many try to devise crafty ways around this, but the fact remains that they were saved since Jesus is addressing them as the saved church. But some fell away by various means. If you stray too far, your name will be erased from the book of life. Again, He is talking about the church, not the unsaved.
There are so many verses that refute ‘eternal security,’ but no one wants to look at them square in the eye. Below is another.
“But I keep control of my body, and bring it into subjection, lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.”
        1 Corinthians 9; 27

You had to have fallen from something .

Taking the dogma of the eternal security of the believer, without regard to the warnings the Bible about falling away, to this much degree is DANGEROUS. You are coming after a real watchman of God with your snarky comment. Like C.H. says, you are cherry-picking the verses without regard to context and are not weighing your dogma against the fabric of the whole counsel of God. Matthew 7 is a warning about false teachers and false prophets, not individual believers.

2 Peter 2 addresses those who follow false teachers. Those individual believers are addressed here in regard to their culpability in the followship of such reprobate shysters: “2 And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of. 3 And through covetousness shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you: whose judgment now of a long time lingereth not, and their damnation slumbereth not. 4 For if God spared not the angels that sinned, but cast [them] down to hell, and delivered [them] into chains of darkness, to be reserved unto judgment;” [2Pe 2:2-4 KJV]. The next few verses are the crux of the matter and the end of Peter’s warming about false teachers AND those who follow them into perdition. Notice these verses .. 18 For when they speak great swelling [words] of vanity, they allure through the lusts of the flesh, [through much] wantonness, those that were clean escaped from them who live in error. 19 While they promise them liberty, they themselves are the servants of corruption: for of whom a man is overcome, of the same is he brought in bondage. 20 For if after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they are again entangled therein, and overcome, the latter end is worse with them than the beginning. 21 For it had been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than, after they have known [it], to turn from the holy commandment delivered unto them. 22 But it is happened unto them according to the true proverb, The dog [is] turned to his own vomit again; and the sow that was washed to her wallowing in the mire.” [2Pe 2:2-4, 18-22 KJV].

The followers do not get a pass. The passage tells that we are accountable for our own actions and who we follow and say ‘amen’ to. Notice the Bible says it would be better “not knowing” than to turn back. When we allow ourselves to get entangled with false teachers such as Beth Moore, Kay Arthur, Charles Stanley, etc, etc., we stop reading the Word of God at face value ,and make their(teachers) dogmas (once saved, always saved) the centerpiece of our lives, we become deceived and are following men (people) rather than God and His Word.

One other thing about the sealing of the Holy Spirit. The sealing of the Spirit is a “down payment” on the ‘potential ‘ glorification of a believer. It is like “earnest money” in the real estate deal. We must finish the deal by making it home safely and by not denying Jesus. What do you think about someone who gives credence to and thereby promotes a book like “The Shack” or “Jesus Calling”. The Bible is clear on this…..”6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” [Jhn 14:6 KJV]. I believe that no one stays with the Father if they give such garbage any place or mental assent in their life.

3 In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise, 14 who[d] is the [e]guarantee of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, to the praise of His glory.–Ephesians 1

9 The coming of the lawless one is according to the working of Satan, with all power, signs, and lying wonders, 10 and with all unrighteous deception among those who perish, because they did not receive the love of the truth, that they might be saved. 11 And for this reason God will send them strong delusion, that they should believe the lie, 12 that they all may be condemned who did not believe the truth but had pleasure in unrighteousness.–2 Thessalonians 2

Yes, as long as you ABIDE in Him.
It’s complicated at times, but it all goes together like a puzzle.

    Hi,

I was wondering another thing about terminology. There is the true charismatic, and then there is the counterfeit, or otherwise known as ‘charismania’. Just like with the ‘apostate church’ the true church is not part of that just like true charismatics like me are not part of the false charismania of the occult. The term ‘charismatic movement’ was used, does that refer to the occult variety?
I know we all get it here but some blogs don’t and just throw them all under the bus and I don’t expect any more from them since they call the true work of the Holy Spirit that of beelzebub. But I am not familiar with what is normally associated with that term charismatic movement.
    Thanks!

On another note, I don’t know if you subscribe to this newsletter but there has been a letter in the last ‘discernment ministries’ newsletter (used to be Herescope) that has a little truth to it but a lot of error. I could refute every other line or more of it as being false, but it’s all the usual false rhetoric.

On a last note I do feel that this is where it will all culminate. They will all embrace the ‘great oneness’ of abomination. The church, the world, all will unite under antichrist and embrace it all, every religion, every form of sin, every false utopic ideal that does not work with fallen human nature, all of it under the name of ‘inclusion’ and a flashing neon lights rainbow and rock concert party mistaken for a ‘revival’ by the apostate church, while they all crucify the real church. But oh, they will all be so sure of themselves…!

Just want to set the record straight: Discernment Ministries is under a new ‘shepherd’, even though Jewel Grewe is the founder with her deceased husband. Herescope was original, is copywrited and though having offered articles in the past, is not part of Discernment. The article you read in Discernment (written by Anton Bosch) is truly a flawed pos and you were correct.
